Teachers of Good Things
Titus 2:3 (KJV) The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
Teach- Restore one to her senses; to moderate, control, curb, disciple; to hold one to her duty; to admonish, to exhort earnestly; give instruction; impart knowledge
What does it mean to teach? We are called to teach our younger sisters in Christ what the Bible says, and how to follow God's Word in our lives. We are called to teach them how to be the things that we ourselves strive to be. In order to do this successfully, we have to teach not only from God's Word, but also from our hearts and experiences.
James 3:1-2 (KJV) 1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
We will receive a greater judgment because we have stepped up to the plate and proclaimed that we are able to teach others how to live. This means that the lady that we are working with is dependent on what we provide. If we accept that responsibility, then we better know what we are talking about.
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Study God's Word. Having the word in your heart makes it easy for us to discern the truth from a lie. This will make us better teachers, because not only are we studying, but we are also applying. Those who live the word can teach the word.
Sneak Peek for Next Week: Titus 2:4-5 tells us what we are to teach to our younger sisters. My question is this, "Do you practice what you teach?"
