Service with a smile
Before Christ entered my life, I can honestly say I never truly wanted to serve others. I know that sounds incredibly selfish but it is the truth. I was too busy doing the things I wanted to do. Any time volunteers were asked to help with something at my church, I never responded. I can remember how I had coworkers in past jobs that would ask me to cover their shifts for them. I was so hesitant, because unless it would benefit me some way, I never wanted to help them.
Once Christ entered my life, He changed my heart and mindset; He gave me the desire to want to serve others. Truth is I actually enjoy helping people, without strings attached. Yes, the work can be hard at times, but it is worth it. There is such a peace in knowing that He has used me to be a blessing to someone else. It is very humbling. Before, my time was spent idly for myself, now it’s spent in ministry work, or helping out at my church.
There is this song that comes on the radio and it talks about JESUS being in disguise, and how when we give to and serve others we are serving Him. This song is amazing and makes me want to be a better servant of His.
I was out mowing my yard the other evening, and one of my neighbors brought me over a bottle of cold water. It was such a selfless act. I invited her in and showed her the changes we had done to the house, and she noticed a pile of notebooks I had sitting on a chair. She asked me if I was going to school. I told her that I wrote for an online Christian Ministry. Her face lit up and she said she was so glad to know that a Christian was living across the street from her. That statement really struck me. This woman didn’t even know me and took the time to bring me a cold drink. Here she was serving me. The moment she found out, I was a Christian and serving Christ, she was very enthusiastic. It makes me wonder if she would have still seen Christ in me, had she not seen the notebooks sitting out on the chair. It is my prayer that when Christ uses me to serve others, that I do it with a smile, and that my work is pleasing in His sight.
Mark 9:31 (KJV) For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
