Friendship - Being a Selfless Friend
You know that part during wedding vows when the bride and groom say they promise to be there for one another through sickness and health; the good times and the not-so-good times? Well I believe the same thing can be said in regards to friendship.
I can recall lots of great memories friends and I have shared over the years. Yet it is in the last few years that Christ has really shown me what being a Godly friend truly means. Friendship is much more than just laughing and having fun. Sometimes being a Godly friend means you have to be willing to step outside your comfort zone in order to minister to your friend where he or she is. Maybe it’s crying with your friend after they receive some bad news, or praying with them about a major decision that needs to be made in their life. Sometimes being a Godly friend means you have to prayerfully confront your friend about some negative choices they have made in their life. Maybe it is just sitting with them, not saying a word, but just being there for them.
Being a Godly friend is NOT about you. It’s about how you can be a blessing to that special person God has chosen to be a part of your life. We should strive to show our friends the same kind of unconditional love Christ showed for us on the cross, the same selfless love He shows us each day.
John 15:12 (KJV) This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
