Attending Church - Why do you do what you do?
Why do you attend church? It’s a simple question, yet if we were to ask Christ to search our hearts we may find that the truth is less than honorable.
I have known people that cite that their reason for not attending church is because they were “forced” to go all their lives and while they admit to being Christians, they do not believe you have to attend church in order to be a Christian. They are correct, however, if we look in the Bible we learn that God encourages us to congregate together and worship Him.
Hebrews 10:25 (KJV) 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Truth is, even after I was saved I went to church because of others, and sometimes out of obligation. In fact, after joining my church, if I knew one of my friends was not going to be in the service, I would not go either. This happened several times. I had made others my motivation for going to church. I knew this was not right and praise be to God, He has been giving me the desire to go to church regardless of who is in attendance.
I pray this continues to carry into other aspects of my life as well. You see, I have spent the past few years letting the decisions of others to dictate whether or not I was going to be a part of something. For instance, if I was interested in joining an activity or organization, but my friends were not, I wouldn’t join because I didn’t want to do it on my own. Thankfully Christ is changing my mindset. He is giving me the opportunity to meet other believers who I may have never spoken to before.
