"Putting Christ First" Who is #1
Since I became a Christian around four years ago, my walk with Jesus has not always been a smooth one. I bear the fault for this. Christ has always been there for me…walking with me, yet at times I have loosened my hand from His; allowing others to lead me along the way. This is a very dangerous thing. The more I listened to others, the less I listened to Him.
One of God’s commandments is that we are to have no other gods before Him. If we break this fundamental commandment how are we supposed to have a true relationship with Jesus Christ? Recently I sat through a service where putting Christ first was discussed. I fell under deep conviction; I was guilty of doing this, of putting others and myself before Him. I cried out to Him and asked for his forgiveness and for Him to be first in my life again.
God never meant for us NOT to have fellowship with others, in fact fellowship with our Christian brothers and sisters is an essential part of the Christian life. The problem lies within our fellowship with Christ. If we allow our fellowship with other believers to substitute our daily relationship with Christ then we are giving someone else higher priority than we are giving God.
I am thankful that Christ revealed this truth to me, and I am eternally grateful that He is a God of forgiveness and mercy.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
