UNDERSTAND GOD IS MY SOURCE IN ALL THINGS
All I Need Series Inspired By The Holy Spirit, Written by: Theressa Lindsey
Philippians 4:19 (KJV) But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
It’s funny we spend our lives thinking others are the source for all our needs; yet the Bible plainly says God is our source.
Several years ago I stood on a beautiful beach watching the most miraculous sunrise with a group of ladies; as the sun came up from what seemed to be the ocean floor God shared with me one of the greatest lessons of life.
One of the ladies was about to be married and asked what lesson in life did I think had the greatest significance at that point.
I stood there for a moment allowing my mind to wonder through the many lessons I was still learning; just then the darkness of night gave way to the rising of the sun and a tremendous lesson. It was one of those times when God just says stop and look at me. As we all stood in silent awe; God painted the sky with magnificent colors all highlighted in the most beautiful gold one could imagine. Just then the answer came to. I smiled and we sat down and watched as God continued His blessing.
As we sat down on the beach and began to talk, I asked if her husband to be had:
1. Promised he would always be there.
2. Provide for financially.
3. Listen to all her cares.
4. Will give you the moon and share all the sunrises and sunsets with you.
5. Help her as they raised their children.
6. Be her protector.
7. Fulfill her intimate needs.
8. Be her emotional stability.
9. Be her spiritual guide.
Promises are wonderful when you are dating and we tend to say what we would do, not what we can do. My friends will tell you I am a huge dreamer, there seems to be no limit to what I think I can do in life, but I have learned that anything I do, give or experience with another is not mine, not my ability that made it happen, not my resources that provided it, it is all God and without Him none of it is possible, because I could lose the ability to function before it happened or cease to exist on this planet and not be there at all. (Phil. 4:13) I was created by God to enjoy what God created and to praise Him for His wondrous works, not take credit for any of it!!!
You see as the sun was rising that morning God reminded me that:
1. God is everlasting.
a. We can’t promise to be here together forever, only in eternity; unless Christ returns in our lifetime all men will die, we don’t know when.
2. God owns all and shares with whom He will. He is our provider.
a. We are to go to Him for our provisions. God grants us favor in the sight of others, God gives the talent to accomplish the tasks for our wages, and God grants us the health to accomplish our work. Our resources are His; He supplies our finances as we willingly do the work He opens to us.
3. God hears our cry.
a. God gives man the ability to have compassionate hearing, it doesn’t come natural.
4. God created the sunrise and sunset, He has appointed them.
a. No one can give what God has made they can only enjoy the beauty of it with you.
5. God says He will teach our children; great peace will be in the hearts of those children who are willing to listen.
a. They are God’s children and He will lead both of you to raise them in His will.
6. Only God can stand against adversity; He created the adversary that brings adversity
a. God is our source for safety Psa.20:7, He provides His whole armor for us so we can stand against the adversary Eph.6:10-20; our battles are not human so humans can’t be our source of protection. Eph. 6:12
7. Christ fulfills our need by filling our hearts with His love. Seek your fulfillment in Christ
a. We cannot rely on intimate human touches, pressures of life attitudes actions and others come into play in human emotion daily, sometimes simply fatigue can cause an individual to withdraw. Accidents can remove human ability, car accidents alone cripple multitudes as well as sickness and disease can destroy intimacy.
8. Jesus knows our hearts and thoughts, He knows all we have done, all we think and
why.
a. When we seek out others as our emotional stability we must do the one thing most people will not do, be open and honest about all things in our lives. Since God already knows He is not shocked, doesn’t share your heart with others, He simply listens, comforts and leads us to the answer we need to help us through.
9. Jesus tells us in the Word of God, He sent His Holy Spirit to be our guide, teacher and companion.
a. Respectfully following another’s advice is good but truly our counsel should begin and end with the Holy Spirit. He will give the wisdom, knowledge; understanding and discernment to seek and accept Godly counsel.
(God is our source not our spouse or others, we are to look to Him for all things; whether we are in relationships with others or not; God is the provider. He is their provider as well.)
God allowed me to take this truth with me that day; if I had a financial need; I needed to take it to God and allow Him to answer it through whatever means He saw fit. If He chose to use a spouse He would, if He chose to use an unexplained miracle He would, if He chose to provide a job or business He would, however He chose it is my responsibility to trust Him enough to take it to Him and allow Him to work and by faith follow His lead. That same truth applies in every need in our lives, if we truly trust Him; we will take it toHim and leave it there.
Have you chosen to take your needs to God and allow Him to be your provider, yours and your families? Will you choose a mate according to what they can promise you or will you choose according to God’s will. Are you the kind of person that makes promises only God can grant.
(When a person learns God is their source and by desire and love for the Lord puts Him first and follows Him, applying His principles, doing what He asks, going where He leads, speaking what He instructs and comes when He calls; that person will have great peace and joy in their lives.)
It should be our prayer: Lord Jesus I do love You and I am willing to do whatever You desire for me to do, help me to be willing to look for Your guidance in everything in my life and to always follow Your lead. Mold me and make me in Your likeness, help me to remember You are my source and I need to bring my petitions and needs to You not depending on others. Help me not be deceived by what others say they can provide. I know You are the only one that can truly give because it is all Yours, You are the creator and Sustainer of all. Father I pray You will give me eyes to see You in all things. In Jesus Name I Pray, AMEN.
Jeremiah 24:7 (KJV) And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
